At an early age David knew that he wanted to become
a pianist. When he first set eyes on his grandfathers Broadwood Piano back in 1978 at the age of 5 he sat down and played
for hours. The funny thing was at that point he could not reach the pedals and had to sit atop books on the stool to reach
the keys!
David's parents Charles and Sandra then decided that he should attend piano lessons every Saturday close
to their home in Hertford, a small town North of London, England.
It wasn’t long before they had to buy a piano so
he could practice at home. They had to sacrifice a lot to buy that first piano and even more for him to have lessons, something
David will always be grateful for.
David's music teacher discovered that he had perfect pitch (the ability to identify
a note on the musical scale without a single reference point) and it was not long before David was using it to play tunes
from the radio, television without music.
At the age of 14, David was appointed church organist and was invited to
play the organ at the world famous Cathedral of St. Albans, Hertfordshire, England.
Over the latter years of his schooling,
David travelled around Europe with the Schools Orchestra and Jazz Band and played concerts in places such as Geneva Switzerland,
Bonn Austria, Berlin and Munich Germany, Valkenburg Holland and Brussels Belgium performing for audiences at concert halls
and in the open. This was great experience for David, playing music and getting to travel too!
Over the next few years
David grew into an very gifted pianist and passed with many graded exams in performance and music theory with distinction
from the world renowned Royal Academy of Music in London.
After studying for his Performance and Teaching Qualifications
with the Royal Academy it was time for David to do what he enjoyed the most - making music.
Being the performer that
he always has been, if there is a piano at a bar, restaurant, hotel or friends house you will always find him firmly placed
there on the piano stool behind it!
